Open-Source Business Intelligence

Dashboards, SQL exploration and metrics layers you can clone, self-host and read the source of. Two generations sit on this grid: the 2013-2015 self-hosted dashboard servers (Redash, Superset, Metabase), where you install a server and non-technical users build charts in a browser, and the 2021 code-first wave (Lightdash, Evidence, Rill), where metrics and dashboards are files in git reviewed like any other pull request. The scope is deliberate. Tableau, Power BI and Looker are the tools most BI buyers shortlist, and none of them publish a repository, so there is no issue-resolution rate to measure and no way to place them on a measured axis rather than a guessed one. They are excluded by the definition of this category, not left sitting on it unscored.
