AI-Native Tech & Growth Director

About Us
Flywheel Motion is what we do. We work with Join The Flywheel network members and other mission-aligned founders and executives to bring their personal and corporate brands to life and grow them. Five phases (Discovery → Strategy → Build → Activation → Performance), run by a director-led team.
The people we work with are doing real work in the world: climate, deep tech, science-led business, founder-led organizations whose ideas should travel further than they currently do. We The Flywheel is the studio behind it. AI is in everything we ship.
The Role
The AI-Native Tech & Growth Director owns the technology platform behind Flywheel Motion and the growth engineering that makes the work compound after launch. You direct the agentic build system, set the spec-driven pattern every project runs against, and own the post-launch performance surface: search visibility, distribution mechanics, analytics, the systems that make a brand stay found.
You're the technical counterpart to the Brand Strategy Director. Brand sets the spine; you make it ship, measure, and compound. You own Phase 3 (Build) and Phase 5 (Performance & Visibility), and stay close in Phase 4 so the activation channels stay instrumented and the feedback loops keep closing.
This is a senior, engagement-paced role, not a fixed weekly quota. Most active directors carry 2–4 engagements at once. We define the objective; you decide how to get there.
What You'll Do
- ▶ Direct the Phase 3 Build: site architecture, design-system integration, content models, deploy pipeline, analytics baseline. Set the spec; the engineering track ships it
- ▶ Own the agentic build pattern: which AI coding agents we use, how prompts are versioned, how output is reviewed, how spec-driven development plays with autonomous tools
- ▶ Set the CI/CD and deploy approach: how engagements ship without breaking, with rollback paths, observability, and atomic releases as the default
- ▶ Own the technical instrumentation of Phase 4 (Activation): every channel tagged, every feedback loop feeding into Phase 5 fast
- ▶ Architect Phase 5 Performance & Visibility: SEO infrastructure, AI-search readiness (schema, citations), GSC + GA4 plumbing, growth-engineering pipelines that compound
- ▶ Own performance tracking as a discipline, not vanity dashboards. Pick the metrics that signal actual progress for each engagement, and instrument the platform to deliver them weekly
- ▶ Co-own quarterly strategic reviews with the Brand Strategy Director: recalibrate the technical roadmap to follow positioning shifts
- ▶ Directly manage the Agentic Engineers and Growth Marketers. You own accountability for code quality and deployment velocity, and you author the technical spec the engineering track executes against
Who You Are
- ✓ Senior full-stack background. You've shipped systems at scale and you understand both the platform and the SEO/growth-engineering surface that sits on top of it
- ✓ You treat LLMs as a junior developer workforce to orchestrate, not a tab-complete tool. You're already running agentic build workflows in production with Claude Code, Cursor, Aider, or comparable, and shipping real work with them — not toy demos
- ✓ You have a working thesis on the human-in-the-loop bottleneck. You can audit agent-generated code for hallucinations and security debt without slowing the sprint
- ✓ Comfortable with spec-driven development: tight specs, agents run against them, you review the diff. You can teach the pattern
- ✓ Strong technical SEO and growth-engineering instincts. You know how schema, sitemaps, internal-link graphs, and Core Web Vitals actually drive rankings
- ✓ Comfortable directing rather than executing most of the implementation. You author the technical specs the engineering track runs against, and step into code only when an architecture decision needs a working prototype
- ✓ Client-facing comfort. You can talk to a founder, executive, or stakeholder about technical strategy without losing them in jargon
- ✓ Can translate technical strategy into founder-ready language in real time. Available during US business hours (ET / PT overlap)
Experience (Preferred)
- ○ 8+ years in full-stack engineering, technical leadership, or principal-level engineering roles
- ○ Multi-year experience running agentic / AI-coding-agent workflows in production. "I've used Copilot" doesn't clear this bar
- ○ Demonstrable wins on technical SEO, programmatic SEO, AI-search visibility, or organic-distribution engineering
- ○ Founder, fractional-CTO, or principal-engineer background where you owned both the platform and the growth surface, not just one side of it
- ○ Experience with our stack is a plus but not required: Astro, Next.js, SQLite/MariaDB, PM2, nginx, Cloudflare, GA4, GSC. We've documented enough that a senior engineer ramps in days
